Tram & Bus
Best for… Scenic rides, connecting to attractions off the metro lines, and for
travellers who can't easily walk long distances. A tram ride is also a classic Milan-
ese experience.
ATM oversees the metro and trams, along with an extensive bus network.
Route maps are available from the ATM Infopoints and at newsstands in the
metro stops.
Tickets are sold at metro stations, tobacconists and newspaper stands and are
valid on buses, trams and metro trains.
Tickets must be pre-purchased and validated when boarding.
Tickets are good for 90 minutes after validation.
Tram 1 is a retro orange beauty with wooden seats and original fittings. It runs
along Via Settembrini before cutting through the historical centre along Via Man-
zoni and back towards the Castello Sforzesco.
Trams 2 and 3 are also good for sightseeing. Tram 9 loops round the town from
Porta Genova to Porta Venezia.
For something a bit different, TramATMosfera has been renovated to incorporate
a restaurant where you can eat your way through a five-course menu as you tour
the city. It departs from Piazza Castello at 1pm and 8pm Tuesday to Sunday. Tick-
ets cost €65.
Night services run between 12.30am and 2.30am. There is no service between
2.30am and 6am.
