In-Depth Information
There are various good-value travel passes available. See Tickets & Passes
Taxi
Best for… Arriving at high-end dinner options and the theatre looking as great
as you did when you left home; reaching awkward parts of the city and late-night
rides back to your hotel.
Taxis are very reliable but expensive at around €10 for the average short trip.
Taxis cannot be flagged down in the street, but must be picked up at designated
ranks around the city, usually outside train stations, large hotels and major piaz-
zas.
Alternatively you can call for a cab on 02 40 40, 02 69 69 or 02 85 85.
English is spoken.
Be aware that when you call for a cab, the meter runs from receipt of call, not
pick up.
There's a fixed rate price for the airports.
Train
Best for… Travel to suburban parts of the city and travel to the lakes.
The main towns of Stresa and Como on the southern shores of Lake Maggiore
and Lake Como, respectively, are served by fast, direct trains from Milan.
Stresa is on the Domodossola-Milan trainline (€7.40, 75 minutes).
Como San Giovanni station is served by trains from Stazione Centrale (€15, 30
minutes).
Como's lakeside Stazione FNM (listed on timetables as Como Nord Lago) is
served by trains from Cadorna (€3.50, one hour).
