Getting There
Metro Missori, Crocetta, Porta Romana and Lodi on MM3 (yellow line) give good
access to the Porta Romana neighbourhood. Porta Genova on MM2 is best for bars
on Via Vigevano and the Naviglio Grande canal.
Tram Use tram 3 for the shops along Corso di Porta Ticinese, Piazza XXIV Maggio
and the Alzaia Naviglio Pavese canal.
The Sights in a Day
Brunch on the back patio of El Brellin ( Click here ) is the way to start the
day. It's situated on picturesque Vicolo dei Lavandai, where women
once brought their laundry to scrub against the flat stones. Afterwards, consider
hopping aboard a Navigli Lombardi ( Click here ) barge for a one-hour tour of the
canals. Longer day tours are also available, and include lunch and afternoon bike
hire.
For those returning early, consider lunch at Slow Food-recommended Le
Vigne ( Click here ) , and then browse the funky shops along Ripa di Porta
Ticinese. As the afternoon wanes, make your way up to the San Lorenzo columns
( Click here ) for ice cream or aperitivo with the rest of the city, who appear to be
camped out in the piazza. Cantina della Vetra ( Click here ), with views over the
piazza, is known for its wine cellar.
The evening is just getting going about now, so move on to drinks at retro
Cuore ( Click here ) or Refeel ( Click here ). Then around 11pm check into
one of Porta Romana's thumping clubs. Magazzini Generali ( Click here ) and
Plastic ( Click here ) draw the biggest crowds.
