BW cleanup
By cleaning up your existing SAP BW system prior to migration, your company can
spend less on its new HANA system. In this chapter, you will learn about the process
for cleaning up your BW system prior to migration, including a 12-step plan to com-
plete the process.
An SAP Business Warehouse is a complex system with data replicated in several locations
that can be removed. Staging areas, summary tables, log files, and temporary storage loca-
tions for data that is being moved to higher-level models can all be cleaned before beginning
the migration. This will significantly reduce the system size needed for the migration, and
will also reduce the amount of work required during the data migration.
Database size reductions
Pre-migration cleanup of an existing BW system can often reduce the
size of an SAP BW system by 20-30%, or even more.
In SAP BW 7.4 on HANA, the master node is used for storage of many of the system tables
and master data. Because of this, it is important to keep the system tables and master data as
small as possible. In order to help this process, you should use the steps below as a guideline
for minimizing the size of the system tables and master data.
