Checkpoints needed!
Do not forget to plan GO/NO-GO checkpoints during the production
upgrade and migration.
Immediately after the production environment has been migrated and upgraded, the stabil-
ization and production phase of the project begins. When the production environment has
been certified as stable, and only AFTER the environment is stable, do not forget to rep-
licate the new version of the production environment to the company's disaster recovery
solution!
2.5.7
Stabilization and optimization
As soon as the upgrade and migration of production has been completed, stabilization and
optimization begin. During this phase of the project, the core team is on close standby and
is ready to respond to any issues as soon as possible. This phase of the project lasts for
approximately three to six weeks. During this phase, when they are not busy resolving is-
sues, the core team can use this time to performance-tune any ABAP transformations and
address any final performance problems.
2.5.8
Project close and hand-off
Usually around six weeks after a successful push to production, the project manager and
project sponsor will meet to discuss the project. This is the time to document the lessons
learned so that they can be applied to future projects. This is also the time for a frank dis-
cussion about the things that went right during the project, as well as to evaluate any op-
portunities for improvement.
