In-Depth Information
SWPM is the latest version of the installation master media from SAP. Prior to SWPM, you
would have to download the latest version of the SAP installation master media (SAPInst)
before beginning a new system installation. SWPM manages system provisioning for nu-
merous SAP products and platforms and already includes the latest fixes in the installation
tool.
After you have downloaded SWPM, unpack and install it on the HANA system. Next, us-
ing SWPM on the HANA system, complete the system upgrade to a new instance-specific
directory on the target system. When you configure the ASCS host, use the same paramet-
ers that were used in configuring the PAS. Also, as part of the configuration, check the file
DEFAULT.PFL for the following parameter:
#OS_UNICODE = uc
This parameter should have been added by SUM for DMO and then changed into a com-
ment with the addition of the # sign after restarting the PAS with the updated system ker-
nel. Remove the # sign before restarting the ASCS at the end of the process, otherwise you
will have problems with the path during a restart of the ASCS instance. After the ASCS
instance has been restarted, modify the DEFAULT.PFL file by adding the # back to the
OS_UNICODE parameter, since that parameter will no longer be required after the first re-
start.

offline backup of the SAP BW on HANA database. This offline backup will be critical if
the DMO process fails during the final phases, so do not skip this step.
Change the HANA default!
Before beginning the backup of the SAP BW on HANA system, you
will need to change a default backup setting in the HANA system.
By default, HANA systems are normally configured to back up data
to the local disk in the HANA appliance. Before completing the off-
