Creating Unicode nametabs
Nametabs are tables in SAP databases that include the technical definitions of dictionary
objects, such as tables, structures, data elements, domains, etc. Nametabs are used by the
ABAP interpreter while executing ABAP programs, so they are required for an SAP sys-
tem to run. Since a Unicode system cannot use the nametabs from a non-Unicode imple-
mentation, you must create Unicode nametabs before completing the Unicode conversion.

To create the Unicode nametabs using transaction code SPUMG, click E XTRAS in the menu
bar, hover over the U NICODE N AMETABS menu item to expand the options, and then select
C REATE U NICODE N AMETABS from the menu, as shown in Figure 5.17.

Return to the J OB O VERVIEW , where you should see a status indicator for the progress of
the nametab creation job. Once the job status changes to F INISHED , you can double-click
the name of the job in the status list to see more details. To check the nametabs after the job
has finished, you can use report UMG_SHOW_UCTABS.
