Georgetown and the Water-
front
From Roosevelt Island to Roosevelt Bridge, this hike follows the river and canal through some of the
chic areas of the city. Take a break in Georgetown on the way back for a bite to eat or some shopping.

Finding the trailhead: By car: The parking lot at Theodore Roosevelt Island can only
be accessed from the George Washington Parkway traveling north. Just after passing the
Roosevelt Bridge, look for the entrance to the lot on the right. Via Metro: Take the Blue
or the Orange line to Rosslyn. From the Rosslyn station, walk along Moore Street to
19th Street. Turn right and then left onto Lynn Street and join the hike at Lynn Street.

The Hike
Leaving the tranquility of Roosevelt Island, cross over the George Washington Parkway to Rosslyn, Vir-
ginia. Now mostly hotels, offices, and high-rise apartments, this prime location across the river from
Georgetown once was the home of Fort Corcoran, one of several forts protecting the capital city during
