FiGure 12.8 Nanopartz funded Clinical Case 2011-1 at Ohio State University. Greyhound,
11 years old, 40 kg with recurring soft tissue sarcoma. Two regions on hindquarter have had
multiple surgeries using conventional removal techniques only to see recurrence. Nanopartz
gold nanorods were injected three days prior to laser treatment. Top (left), the picture was
taken 3 h after laser treatment to upper exposed using Pandia ® system. Grape-sized tumor is
now black in color. The tumor achieved over 100 o C increase in temperature after 5 s of 15W
exposure. The total exposure time was 1 min. Top (right), two days after treatment. Bottom
(left), 6 days after treatment. Bottom (right), 2 weeks after treatment; biopsies were negative
for cancer.
