engine and associated cost-based optimizer, and more. The Advanced Text
Analytics Toolkit is shipped with BigInsights and Streams, and enables you to
develop text analytics models on data at rest, and then transparently deploy
them on data in motion. You'll find more details about this toolkit in Chapter 8.
InfoSphere Data Explorer
IBM InfoSphere Data Explorer (Data Explorer) is the new name for the prod-
uct set that was acquired when IBM bought Vivisimo in early 2012. Data
Explorer provides secure and highly accurate federated search and naviga-
tion of Big Data assets throughout the enterprise. It can be integrated with
BigInsights and Streams under two scenarios: data from BigInsights or
Streams can be accessed and shared with Data Explorer and its visualization
interface, or Data Explorer can consume data directly from BigInsights. Data
Explorer can also be integrated with InfoSphere Federation Server and be-
come part of its federated index of structured data repositories. You'll find
more details about this Big Data technology in Chapter 7.
InfoSphere Information Server
IBM InfoSphere Information Server (Information Server) is one of the com-
ponents of the IBM Big Data platform. Information Server provides a gate-
way to the enterprise through its ability to integrate with multiple enterprise
systems. BigInsights is integrated with Information Server, which can load
data into BigInsights, or move data from BigInsights to other enterprise sys-
tems. Streams is also integrated with Information Server, enabling organiza-
tions to acquire real-time insights and load that data into a target system at
specified intervals.
Information Server is deeply integrated with the IBM PureData System for
Analytics; it has the “smarts” to push SQL-based transformations into its
field programmable gate array (FPGA)-assisted processing architecture (see
Chapter 4 for more information). Information Server is also integrated with
the IBM PureData System for Operational Analytics. Many clients are attracted
to the IBM PureData Systems because of the sheer simplicity of its approach.
