InfoSphere Streams
Streams can provide real-time updates to BigInsights, which could be the
result of a Streams operation or a scored SPSS model. BigInsights is often
used in conjunction with Streams to provide deeper analysis of models,
which can be subsequently promoted and scored in Streams (a similar usage
pattern is discussed in Chapter 2).
Streams is integrated with various data warehouse solutions through a set
of database adapters that enable it to write insights to or filter data in a target
warehouse system. We often see Streams integrated with a warehouse for
deeper analysis, modeling, and discovery on structured data. In fact, Streams
has set load-optimized high-speed connectors that are deeply integrated
with the analytics-based IBM PureData Systems. These details are discussed
in Chapter 6.
Finally, Streams can share data with or supply input to Information Server,
from which it can be integrated with any number of systems, as required.
Data Warehouse Solutions
Data warehousing solutions are well integrated with the Information Integra-
tion and Governance (IIG) aspects of the IBM Big Data platform: information
integration for high-speed data loading and unloading; data quality to stan-
dardize and improve data; data lifecycle management for archiving and con-
trolling data growth, and for generating right-sized test data environments;
MDM systems to provide a single view of business entities; and privacy and
security monitoring to mask data and monitor database activity. Both the IBM
PureData System for Analytics and the IBM PureData System for Operational
Analytics have optimized integration points to many of the IIG solutions (we
cover these later in this chapter). Of course, as previously mentioned, the IBM
Big Data platform warehousing solutions also have integration points to both
BigInsights and Streams.
The Advanced Text Analytics Toolkit
IBM ships the Advanced Text Analytics Toolkit as part of its Big Data plat-
form. This toolkit includes samples, built-in extractors that can be used in pro-
duction right away, an integrated development environment, a text-extraction
