) This easygoing guesthouse is Upcountry's top budget sleep. In the middle of
nowhere yet within an hour's drive of nearly everywhere, it's a good central base for ex-
ploring the whole island, and works well for catching the sunrise at Haleakalā. Rooms,
spotlessly clean, are small but comfortable, each with refrigerator and TV. There's a
guest kitchen and a hot tub.
If you need more space, there's a two-bedroom cottage (from $150).

forces behind the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement and a steady flow of in-the-know
diners beats a track to this tiny village to feast on her inspired creations. Tantalize your
taste buds with fusion fare like sashimi pizza or Kahlua pork enchilada pie. The atmo-
spheric plantation-era decor sets the mood.

creations inspired by Hawaii's unique natural beauty, step inside this new gallery and
glass blowing studio, which spotlights the work of artists Justin Brown and Randy Schaf-
fer. Although open most days of the week, call first to confirm and to check the status of
glass-blowing demos. The studio and gallery are located inside a warehouse across the
street from Haliʻimaile General Store.
