Eating
Farmers Market Deli DELI $
MAP
( 669-7004; 3636 Lower Honoapiʻilani Rd; sandwiches under $6; 7am-7pm; ) Stop
here for healthy takeout fare. The salad bar (with free samples) includes organic goodies
and hot veggie dishes. The smoothies and sandwiches are first-rate and Maui-made ice
cream is sold by the scoop. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings vendors sell
locally grown produce in the parking lot from 7am to 11pm.
Honokowai Okazuya INTERNATIONAL $$$
( 665-0512; 3600 Lower Honoapiʻilani Rd; mains $10-18; 11am-2:30pm & 4:30pm-8:30pm
Mon-Sat) At this place, plate lunch specialties take a gourmet turn. But the appeal is not
immediately apparent: the place is tiny, prices are high and the choices seem weird (kung
pao chicken and spaghetti with meatballs?). Then you nibble the piping-hot Mongolian
beef. Hmm. Chomp chomp. That's pretty interesting. Gulp gulp. Mmm, spicy.
And then...the whole darn container is empty. Cash only.
Java Jazz & Soup Nutz ECLECTIC $$$
( 667-0787; www.javajazz.net ; Honokowai Marketplace, 3350 Lower Honoapiʻilani Rd; breakfast
$3-15, lunch $10-15, dinner $10-55; 6am-9pm Mon-Sat, to 5pm Sun) With a menu as eclectic
as its decor, this arty cafe never disappoints. Breakfast packs 'em in with everything
from pancakes to frittata; lunch revolves around Greek salads and innovative sand-
wiches. Dinner gets downright meaty with tasty flame-grilled filet mignon.
