MAHUKONA-TO-KAPAʻA WALKING TRAIL
Mahukona and Kapaʻa Beach Parks are linked by a beautiful, little-known, 2-mile
oceanside walking trail. From Kapaʻa Beach Park, start by the old railway bed on
the left, visible on the way in. From Mahukona Beach Park, go past the two-story
brown metal building and park at the turn-out on the right. Scoot left around the
metal pipe gate to find the trail sign. Bring water and a hat and stay on the trail.

Pua Mau Place Botanic & Sculpture Garden GARDEN
MAP
( 882-0888; www.puamau.org ; 10 Ala Kahua Dr; adult/student $15/5; 9am-4pm) They said
it couldn't be done, but Virgin Place, who recently passed away, created this 13-acre
botanical garden in an area receiving only 3 to 10 inches of annual rainfall by tapping in-
to brackish groundwater. The result is consequently limited to certain plants but makes
for a pleasant (if hot) hour-long hillside walk, punctuated by occasional large insect
sculptures.
The garden is mainly for botanophiles. To get here, turn inland on Ala Kahua Dr just
north of mile marker 6.
