Kalaheo Inn INN $

inn has slightly different layouts in all the rooms. While atmosphere is lacking, on the
whole they are reasonably clean, though walls are thin. Hint: room #7 is a split-level unit
with nobody above or below you. They offer free snorkel gear to guests; some rooms
have a kitchenette.
Kauai Garden Cottages COTTAGE $$$

the Kalaheo upcountry, this meticulously designed pair of suites gleam with rich Indone-
sian hardwood floors under soaring cathedral ceilings with cheerful stained-glass ac-
cents. The all-wood rooms are their own little pods, separate yet sheltered under one roof
and adjoined by a vast lanai, cantilevered over a stunning green valley. Rent both rooms
for only $200 nightly.
The owner, Thayne Taylor, is a boat captain, scuba instructor, musician and tech head
who is the type of renaissance man worthy of a visit on his own.
Hale O Nanakai B&B $$$

turned four-room B&B with wall-to-wall carpeting, beamed ceilings, a comfy if slightly
dated common living room, and spectacular seaviews. Rooms range in size, yet all but
the cheapest digs have similar amenities including HDTV and queen or full-sized beds.
The tiny Maile Room has but a single bed for the wandering ascetic.

Lanakila Kitchen HAWAII REGIONAL $

Mon-Thu, to 6pm Fri) A locals' haunt, this tiny bright cafe with a cause serves a steam table
of curries, meat and fish dishes, which you can pick and mix for plate lunches. Think ter-
iyaki ono , pork and peas, chicken curry and more. They also do soups, pies and ahi
wraps. Proceeds go to an employment program for locals with disabilities.
