DICOM Files
The Digital Images Communication in Medicine (DICOM) format is the
standard format for medical images that are produced through scanning
equipment. Scanned images may be in DC3, DIC, or DCM or may not include
a format.
DICOM can either contain one frame or multiple frames; thus Photoshop is
able to import both one frame or multiple frame types of the DICOM iles
and arrange the frame either in layers or separate iles or use them to create
a 3D volume image that you can view from diferent positions.
Also, Photoshop supports 8-, 10-, 12-, and 16-bit DICOM iles, and when you
open a 10- or 12-bit ile, Photoshop converts it to a 16-bit ile.
When you open any DICOM iles with the Open command, the DICOM dialog
box appears with the settings and option available to handle the DICOM iles
inside Photoshop. In the following example, we import a DICOM ile that
supports multiple frames into Photoshop. The left side of the DICOM dialog
box displays the frame included in the DICOM ile. You can select one frame

In the middle of the dialog box, the preview windows display a large preview
