the 3D scene as an environment. The Spherical Panorama tool converts the
2D layer to a 3D sphere that surrounds the 3D scene. You can rotate, pan, or
use the 3D tools to navigate around the 3D sphere.
To give you a better understanding of spherical panoramas, the following
example converts a space image to a panoramic space that you can then
navigate using the 3D tools in Photoshop:
1. Open the ile panorama.jpg. This is an image for a city background (see
Figure 6.7). We will convert this image to a spherical panorama that you
can navigate through with your 3D tools mimicking a real environment.
2. From the 3D menu, choose New Shape from Layer > Spherical Panorama.
3. The image layer is converted to a 3D layer that includes the city
background image as a (difuse) texture for the inside side of the sphere
(Figure 6.8).
4. Select the 3D Camera Rotate tool from the 3D camera tools and drag
over the panorama image to navigate through the image. Notice that the
spherical panorama gives you the efect of being inside the environment.
5. Use the 3D Camera Zoom tool to zoom in and out inside the panorama.
3D Meshes from 2D Grayscale Layers
I consider this method one of the greatest 3D resources in Photoshop, as it
gives you the ability to translate the depth of a grayscale layer or image into
a 3D mesh. Photoshop translates the depth in the image to this mesh.
