Dassault Systemes: The French company behind PLM- (Product Lifecycle Management)
and CAD-programs such as Catia and Solidworks. The company is listed on the Paris stock
exchange and had a turnover of 2.87 billion USD in 2013.
Autodesk : The American company behind CAD programs such as AutoCad and Inventor.
Their free modeling software Autodesk 123D is popular among hobbyist 3D printers.
Autodesk is listed on NASDAQ and the turnover in 2013 was 2.31 billion USD. In 2014
Autodesk acquired the UK software company Delcam. The same year Autodesk announced
an open source 3D printing platform and a low-cost stereolithography printer branded
“Spark” in what was perceived as an attempt to become the “Android” of 3D printing. The
idea was that the open source software would be adopted by other printer producers and that
this would increase sales of Autodesk's paid software offerings.
PTC : PTC Inc. is a US-based company known for its CAD program PTC Creo (formerly
known as ProEngineer). PTC is listed on NASDAQ and had a revenue of 1.29 billion USD
in 2013.
Cimatron : This is a small Israeli CAD/CAM software company listed on NASDAQ. In
2013 the company announced a directed effort of entering the additive manufacturing field.
In the process they hired the well-known 3D printing expert Terry Wohlers as an advisor.
