3D printing system manufacturers
Hewlett-Packard (HP) : On October 29, 2014 HP announced its entrance into the 3D print-
ing market. The 2D printing giant has developed an ink-jet technique which they call: Multi
Jet Fusion. The technology is being developed with key customers and will be fully avail-
able on the market in 2016 according to HP. Multi Jet Fusion is supposed to be faster and
have better resolution than competing technologies, and it also offers a wide availability of
color options. HP is listed on NYSE.
MGI Group : MGI is a French giant in 2D printing which is listed on Euronext in Paris. In
2013 MGI acquired Ceradrop, a company that manufactures equipment for 3D printing of
electronics, such as antennas, LED screens, chip cards, solar cells, RFID tags, batteries and
biomedical sensors.
Renishaw : This UK company is involved in Industrial Metrology, Additive Manufacturing
and Healthcare. The main product is probes that can be used for quality control of manufac-
tured parts etc. Renishaw is also a well-known brand in metal 3D printing using the Select-
ive Laser Melting process. Renishaw bought the UK branch of MTT Technologies, one of
the spinoffs of Fockele & Schwarze (see History of 3D Printing) and renamed it Renishaw.
The company is listed on the London stock exchange and had a turnover of 577 million USD
in 2013.
Roland : Roland is an arm of the famous Japanese synthesizer maker. Its printer division is
mainly producing wide-format 2D printers, but in 2014 the company launched a moderately
priced DLP 3D printer: the “monoFab Arm 10”. Roland is listed on the Tokyo Stock Ex-
change.
XYZ : XYZ's mother company, Taiwanese Kinpo Group, is a huge giant in electronics man-
ufacturing service listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Kinpo's 3D printing venture XYZ
is so miniscule compared to its main business that it cannot be defined as a “3D printing
stock” (at least not yet). XYZ started out with launching its low-cost desktop FDM printer
Da Vinci in 2014.
