In-Depth Information
Word of mouth/click marketing is increased; and
It motivates the team to keep the enterprise looking fresh in the eyes of
the consumer.
When a celebration day occurs, celebrate it; there are numerous events
every year that you can connect with, these include:
Chinese New Year;
Valentine's Day;
April Fool's day;
Vegetarian Week, May;
Apple day, October in northern hemisphere;
Red Aussie Apple Day, June.
Or you could create your own celebration; we have come across the
following:
Liquorice week;
Chilli festival;
Herb Festival;
Rhubarb week;
Cheese week.
Note: most countries have a directory of events, which can be found
through Google searches on the Internet.
Market Your Region
Not literally market the region, but rather than promote your business as
the key reason to travel to an area, promote the surrounding region. The
Manjimup region of south Western Australia is known as the Southern
Forests Food Region and a group of culinary businesses promote the region,
as a result of which all members benefit.
Italy and France are well known for their food and travellers go to those
countries for a food experience rather than to a specific business.
One of the best examples we know is what Vancouver Island is doing in
British Columbia in Canada. Marketing is made up of traditional marketing
techniques and social media marketing techniques and this region is excep-
tionally good at the traditional marketing techniques.
This is what they are doing:
• Billboards promoting local food at key locations around the island;
• A FarmFresh magazine that is available via Tourist Information Offices
(www.islandfarmfresh.com) . This gives a profile of the grower and map
on how to find them;
• A Flavour Route around the Saanich Peninsula, where most of the growers
are located.
The key is, if a group of growers get together, they can really start to
make a difference and create a local media presence.
