In-Depth Information
Fig. 5.3. Concession stallholder at Ludlow Food Festival.
The application form must have a return date on it to enable the organizer
to effectively plan the event. Apart from the standard information of name, ad-
dress etc., the form should request whether water and power will be needed
and if the vendor is setting up a self-contained unit or not. TheĀ fee is normally
based on size of site required and a fee for every 1000 visitors that come to the
festival, plus extra charges for 'hook ups' to power or water if required.
Local health authorities will set the ground rules for a festival and those
rules need to be clearly stated to the vendor. They do vary around the world,
but in our experience health inspectors do come and check on standards at
events and an organizer needs to be prepared.
Our experience has shown that the rules must state by what time a
vendor stand must be set up, the earliest they can take their stall away, and
where they can park vehicles and come on site with vehicles.
If the event has plenty of food vendors then the event will also need
plenty of garbage cans or rubbish bins around the food area and these will
need to be emptied on a regular basis. This will help keep the festival looking
clean and save time cleaning up at the end of the event.
Festival income
The business objective of a festival is to generate income and vendors are one
source of income. Clearly an entry fee for visitors is a major source of income.
Some events will charge extra to park cars at the venue. We personally feel
this leaves a 'bad taste in the mouth' and would recommend the parking fee
is costed into the entry ticket.
