Biodegradation of Synthetic Dyes by
White Rot Fungi
The ability of white rot fungi, such as P. chrysosporium and T. versicolor , to
decolorize synthetic dye is very well known [22-25]. White rot fungi are
one of two groups of wood decaying Basidiomycota along with brown rot
fungi. Unlike brown rot fungi that degrade only easily degradable carbohy-
drate in decaying wood and other plant materials, white rot fungi degrade
both lignin and carbohydrate and leave white “bleached” cellulose fibers in
