M INDORO
MT IGLIT-BACO NATIONAL PARK
Wildlife
Travellers who trek to this remote area may be rewarded with a sighting of the elusive wild
tamaraw, the Philippines' endangered native buffalo. The national park is made up of
sweeps of grassland (the favoured habitat of the tamaraw), Mangyan slash-and-burn area,
and forested ridges.
MT HALCON
Trekking
Looming over Calapan, Mt Halcon (2505m) is considered by many to be the most challen-
ging big peak in the Philippines. The standard trip is two days up, two days down, taking in
the perilous Monkey Bridge (a tangle of tree trunks spanning the Dulangan River), a
breathtaking Knife Edge ridge walk and, finally, the peak itself.
