other. There are many places to pull off and take photos or admire the
scenery. Watch for the hairpin turn, especially if there is a bus or other
large vehicle coming the other way!
Just before reaching the summit parking area you will pass the Blue
Hill Overlook on the left.
DID YOU KNOW? Blue Hill Overlook used to be
called the Sunset Overlook. The name attracted so
many people (in the hundreds every night) to watch
the colorful sunsets that its name was changed. It is
still a fun way to end the day, and the crowds will
likely be smaller.
At the top of Cadillac Mountain views extend for miles. On a clear fall day
mile-high Katahdin can be seen more than 150 miles to the north. A hotel
once was located here and a cog railway once brought people to the top be-
fore an auto road was built.

await first light. With plenty of room to spread out however, it

complete.
The only entry fee station is on the Loop near Sand Beach. The fee is $10
per car for seven days. If you want to skip that part of the park, which I
don't advise, there are no fees for other areas.
Cross-Country Skiing & Snowmobiling
Acadia National Park features more than 50 miles of groomed carriage
roads that wind through mountains and across graceful granite arch
bridges. Many excellent views possible. Most carriage roads off-limits to
snowmobiles and other motorized travel.
One lane of the Park Loop Road along Ocean Drive is not plowed to al-
low oceanside skiing and snowmobiling when weather permits. Many
