Park Rules
Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.
No parking on vegetation or natural ground.
No firearms.
No fires except in designated picnic areas.
Bicycles are prohibited on hiking trails.
Hang-gliding is prohibited.
In-line skating and skate boarding are banned on park
roads and parking lots.
Do not remove rocks or plants from the park.
Do not harm standing vegetation or pick anything but
blueberries in season. You can be fined.
Swimming
The park runs swimming beaches at Echo Lake , where there are life-
guards, restrooms and changing rooms, and at Lakewood , where there
are no facilities. Other popular swimming spots include the west side of
Long Pond (off the Seal Cove Fire Road) and at “ the ledges ” just down-
hill from the Acadia Mountain Parking area on Route 102. The only life-
guarded saltwater beach is Sand Beach , along the Park Loop Road. It
has changing rooms and restrooms. Swimming is allowed in other small
ponds and in the ocean wherever visitors feel it looks inviting and it is
safe.
Swimming Holes
Many lakes in Acadia are public water supplies, which means
they are off-limits to swimmers. In summer, many have regular
patrols and violators can be summoned to court. While boating
and fishing are allowed, swimming is banned in the following
lakes: Eagle Lake, Bubble Pond, Upper and Lower Hadlock
Ponds, Jordan Pond, Long Pond (south end extending north to
one mile beyond pump station).
