In-Depth Information
Dissolve —Like the Normal mode, you paint or edit each pixel with the blend color,
but the image is displayed through a dissolve effect. For best results, use the Brush
tool set to a large brush with this effect.
Darken —This mode selects the darker color between the base color and the blend
color. Any pixels lighter than the blend color are replaced with the darker color,
and any pixels darker than the blend color remain the same.
Multiply —This blend multiplies the base and the blend colors. The result color is
always a darker color. If one of your colors is white, the result color is always
white. Likewise, if one of the colors is black, the result color is always black.
Color Burn —This mode mixes the blend color into the base color so that the blend
color is reflected in the base color.
Linear Burn —This blend darkens the base color with the blend color by decreas-
ing the brightness. Blending with white does not change anything.
Darken Color —The analysis of this blend determines the total of all colors in both
the base and the blend color and uses the lower value color from each to create the
result color.
Lighten —The lighter color value between the base and blend color becomes the
result color. Pixels darker in color than the result color are replaced with the result
color, but the pixels that are lighter remain the same.
Screen —The inverse of the blend and base colors is used as the result color, and it
is always lighter. If black is used as one of the colors, no changes are made, and if
white is one of the colors, it is used for the result color.
Color Dodge —The base color is brightened with the blend color. If one of the col-
ors is black, no changes are made.
Linear Dodge (Add) —Similar to the Color Dodge, this blend also brightens the
base color with the blend color but does it by increasing the brightness. Again,
blending with black does nothing.
Lighter Color —The analysis of this blend determines the total of all colors in both
the base and the blend color and uses the higher value color from each to create the
result color.
Overlay —Based on the base color, this blend screens or multiplies the base and
blend colors, letting the colors or patterns of the blend overlay the existing pixels.
This preserves the highlights and shadows of the base color while mixing the base
color with the blend color.
Soft Light —The base color is darkened or lightened based on the blend color.
