Processing a Web page with scripting.
The addition of scripting capabilities can help us with common
tasks, and the automatic generation of new windows can provide us
with worthwhile information.
How can pop-up windows be controlled?
As we've discussed, popup windows can be generated when
Web pages take advantage of scripting languages. These windows
may be programmed to appear when a page loads, when it finishes,
or when the user performs various activities while viewing the page.
In essence, because scripts control the appearance of these windows,
and because Web developers can write the scripts as they wish,
JavaScript, VBScript, and other scripting languages can trigger new
windows to appear at any time during the viewing of a Web page.
For the most part, the appearance of these windows is outside
the control of you as a viewer of the Web page. Often they materi
alize on your screen with useful information and enhance your
Internet experience, but at other times they provide unwelcome so
licitations or promotions that are more annoying than helpful.
Unfortunately, when activated, a browser will follow the scripts it
receives, and windows will appear following those instructions, re
gardless of the content of those windows.
