Use Siri to Get More Information
Siri has learned a few new tricks since it was originally launched on the iPhone in 2010.
(When this topic went to press, Siri was available on the iPhone 4S and 5 and on the third-gen-
eration iPad, fourth-generation iPad, and iPad Mini when connected to the Internet.) You can
now ask Siri questions about sports scores, teams, movie screenings, and more. Siri will re-
spond with up-to-date information related to your query. For example, you can say “What were
the football scores at the weekend?” and Siri will pull up the soccer or NFL scores depending on
your location. You can then drill down and ask for information on specific players or league
standings by asking questions like “Who is winning the NFC East?”
Similarly, asking “What's on at the movies?” will have Siri provide information on show
times at the nearest cinema to your current location. The movies will also be shown in order of
popularity based on reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.
Controlling music playback via voice commands isn't a new feature in iOS, nor is asking
Siri which track is currently playing. But you can now also use Siri to launch apps for you.
Telling Siri to “Open Calendar” switches you to the Calendar app on your iOS device. And you
can get details from many apps. For example, you could ask, “What does my day look like?” and
have Siri list the number of appointments in your Calendar for that day.
