In-Depth Information
Once you have enabled disc sharing on the remote computer, here's how you access it from your
disc-less Mac:
1. On that remote computer's optical drive, insert the disc you want to share with your disc-less Mac.
2. On the Mac without an optical drive, switch to the Finder (click on the desktop or click the Finder icon in the Dock) and
then choose File > New Finder Window or press Command+N.
3. In the Finder window's Sidebar, you should see Remote Disc. Click it.
4. The computer with the optical drive should now appear in the Finder window, as shown in Figure 8-16. Double-click it.
5. Click the Ask to Use button at the top of the window if required.
6. On the Mac or PC with the optical drive, accept the request (if required) to grant your other computer access to the drive.

NOTE: Some disc types and actions can't be used with Remote Disc:
• Copy-protected discs
• Audio CDs
• Operating system installation discs (both Windows and OS X)
• DVD movies
• CD or DVD burning
TIP: By purchasing apps from the Mac App Store, you can install them on as many as five Macs
(using the same Apple ID) and reinstall and update as needed via the Internet — no installation disc
required.
