In-Depth Information
I find the voice-initiated reminders and timers on my iPhone to be invaluable when cooking be-
cause I always carry my phone and can hear the alarm wherever I am. It's much more reliable than
the kitchen timer that I can't really hear when I leave the kitchen and then get distracted, which often
results in a much louder alarm — my fire alarm — blaring when whatever's in the oven or on the
stove begins to smoke.
Create reminder lists
If you are working on multiple projects or you don't want to mix your work and home reminders,
you can group reminders into separate lists. Once you have created a list, you can quickly jump
between groups in the Reminders app to see specific sets of reminders. You can also use the calendar
view to show all the reminders for a specific day.
To create a list on an iPad, just tap the Create New List option under the desired service (such as
iCloud), then enter your preferred name for that list.
On an iPhone or iPod Touch, tap the Lists button ( ) to open the Lists screen, then tap the
Create New List option under the desired service (such as iCloud), enter your preferred name for that
list, and tap Done.
On a Mac, tap the Add button (the + icon), then enter your preferred name. If you have multiple
reminder accounts set up, a pop-up menu appears when you tap the Add button, letting you select
the service to add the list to, such as iCloud.
On iCloud.com in your browser, sign in and then open the Reminders app. Tap the Add button
(the + icon), then enter your preferred name. This list is added to your iCloud account.
On a Mac or Windows PC, use the calendar-creation feature in your version of Outlook. This list
is added to your Exchange account.
Share reminder lists
Sharing a list of reminders allows you to delegate tasks to others who have iCloud accounts —
ideal for planning events or collaborating on projects. Unfortunately, you can only share reminder
lists from iCloud.com and the Mac version of Reminders, not from iOS devices. When someone ac-
cepts the invitation to a shared list, he or she can see all the reminders in that list, mark them as com-
pleted, and add new reminders to it.
1. Launch the Mac Reminders app or visit iCloud.com and access the Web-based Reminders
app.
2. Hover your cursor over the list you want to share until the Share button (
) appears.
3. Click the Share button ( ).
4. Enter the contact names or e-mail addresses you want to share the list with in the provided
field, separating each name with a comma (see Figure 7-12).
5. Click the Done button.
