In-Depth Information
Some mobile phones and other devices store contact information on their SIM card. So if you
move from another phone to an iPhone or cellular-capable iPad using the same SIM card, you can
import these contacts into the Contacts app on your new device, and thus into iCloud:
1. Open the iOS Settings app and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
2. Scroll until you see the Import SIM Contacts button and tap it.
3. Select where to import the contacts to (iCloud is of course the best option) — and you're
done.
Enhance contact information for Siri
The Siri service on recent-model iPhones and iPads can be wonderful, letting you search for in-
formation, ask questions, and control some aspects of your iOS device all through voice queries and
commands.
One aspect of Siri that you may overlook is its ability to associate people in your contacts list with
their relationship to you, which can make using Siri that much easier. For example, “call Dad” or
“locate my girlfriend.”
Siri does this by using the relationships you set in your own contacts card, as Figure 6-1 shows:
1. Launch the Settings app and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
2. Scroll down to Contacts and tap the My Info section to show the contact card Siri is cur-
rently using as yours. You can change the contact if you want.
3. Open the Contacts app, then select the contact card listed in the My Info section in the Set-
tings app. It will have a silhouette of a head next to it as well as be in blue.
4. Tap the Edit button.
5. Scroll down until you see the Add Field option; tap it and then in the pop-over scroll down
and tap Related People.
6. The Mother field appears; tap the adjacent field to select your mother's contact card, or tap
Mother to get a list of other relationships to use instead.
7. After you add a related person, a new relationship field appears below it (usually Mother or
Father) that you use to add a second relationship.
8. Keep adding relevant relationships, one at a time.
9. Tap the Done button to save your changes.
