What to See and Do
Diocletian's Palace
Little did Roman Emperor Diocletian know when he built his retirement palace in Split in
295 AD that a whole town would spring up within and around it. In terms of size the palace
was actually more of a fortress, since the Emperor's army used part of it as their garrison.
Today you can visit the lower part of the palace where the Emperor lived which is mostly
intact and houses a number of restaurants, shops and accommodation.
