In-Depth Information
Bolt resistance .
At plastic collapse of the plate, the prying force causes a plastic hinge at the bolt
line, so that the prying force = 0.712 × 10 6 / 30 N = 23.7kN.
Bolt tension = 0.107 × 443.0 + 23.7 = 70.6kN.
Using the solution of example 2, F v , Rd = 94.1kN.
For 20mm Grade 8.8bolts, A t = 245mm 2 and f ub = 800N/mm 2
EC3-1-8T3.1
F t , Rd = 0.9 × 800 × 245 / 1.25N = 141.1kN.
EC3-1-8T3.4
Hence, 0.125 × 443.0
94.1
70.6
1.4 × 141.1 = 0.946 < 1.0
+
EC3-1-8T3.1
and so the bolt resistance does not govern.
Thus Q 443.0.
9.10.8 Example 8 - plate-bearing resistance
Problem. Determine the bearing resistance of the end plate of example 7 shown
in Figure 9.22b.
Solution.
α d = 35 /( 3 × 22 ) = 0.530, f ub / f u = 800 / 510 = 1.569 > 0.530,
EC3-1-8T3.4
and so α b = 0.530.
EC3-1-8T3.4
k 1 = 2.8 × 30 / 22 = 3.82 > 2.5 so that k 1 = 2.5
EC3-1-8T3.4
F b , Rd = 2.5 × 0.530 × 510 × 20 × 8 / 1.1N = 98.3kN
EC3-1-8T3.4
Using this with the analysis solution of example 7, 0.125 Q 98.3
so that Q b 786.8 > 443.0 ( Q p ) .
9.10.9 Example 9 - fillet weld resistance
Problem. DeterminetheresistanceofthetwofilletweldsshowninFigure9.22b.
Solution.
l w = 268.7mm and F L , Ed = 1.861 Q N/mm, as in example 5.
