form a flat, natural bridge. Remember that all waterfalls in Alabama are seasonal.
The best time to visit to see the falls is in fall or spring.
If you have the time, it is worth your while to continue a little farther down the
White Trail just past the loop's turn north to meet up with the Blue Trail. The path
continues to follow the stream and is a great place to just sit and relax.
Turning north, the trail meets up with the Blue Trail and comes to a giant out-
cropping known as the Great Wall. Don't worry about missing it—you won't!
From here the trail starts heading south and back to the trailhead.
As I said, there are 12 miles of trail here, with plenty of opportunities to create
your own loop and explore. I recommend that you also head to the southern trail-
head and take the 0.5-mile walk to the Boulder Field to check out huge rocks with
such names as Ship Rock. This is a favorite area for climbers to get in a little face
time with the rocks. There are also more waterfalls farther along and a rugged
hike affectionately known as the “Cardio Trail.”
Before I forget, I can't say enough about the work that area volunteers and or-
ganizations do to maintain the trails. They are well groomed and blazed at all
times. But, of course, trail maintenance is never done, and if you fall in love with
Moss Rock Preserve and want to help maintain this beautiful area, contact the city
of Hoover and they'll be glad to get you started.
