Databases Reference
In-Depth Information
The datatypes (35 types including the spatial data types) are common to both SQL
Server as well as the SQL Azure databases and the authoring tools are the same, and
you do not need special skills to create a report for Windows Azure SQL Reporting.
The complexity of a report can arise out of interactivity that you want for the report,
such as creating charts—use of gadgets, and interactive sorting. When you develop
reports, you should look and verify whether the Cloud-hosted service renders them
as well.
For example, data bar does not work. When rendered, data bars are replaced by
plain text, whereas data indicators work as expected. In a simple test of the idea,
the report was rendered as shown in the Report Builder. Note that the processing
was on the Report Server:
While Windows Azure SQL Reporting has all the flexibility of reporting services,
it still falls short of the capabilities that one finds in Reporting Services implemented
in Native mode.
SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services - Known
Issues
Like most software, SSRS 2012 is also a work in progress. The best source of
information is to visit the MSDN( http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/
en-US/category/windowsazureplatform )/TECHNET( http://social.technet.
microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ssdsgetstarted/threads ) forums to see the
issues and workarounds. These are some issues, but they will be fixed in future
updates like in other software products:
Portal is a very useful user interface for everything connected to Windows
Azure, but at present, you can navigate to the root plus one level and no
further. However, it can be done if you connect to an older version of the
portal. Review the link on old/new portals at http://www.windowsazure.
