• The data source of the report must have its access credentials stored in the
database or should require no credentials. Windows credentials does not work.
• A data alert requires at least one data region; no data, no data alert .
• A report should change over time due to changes in the underlying data for
the data alert features to alert changes despite report parameter changes.
The Data Alerts are set up in SharePoint Central Administration, which also provides
you with the necessary user interfaces in the form of Data Alerts Designer and Data
Alerts Manager for alerting administrators and users to work with Data Alerts.
Getting ready for Data Alerts
As mentioned earlier, we need to set up a SQL Server Reporting Services service in
SharePoint ( SP ) to use this feature. In Chapter 1 , Overview and Installation - SQL Server
Reporting Services 2012 , the installation of SharePoint Server 2010 was described. This
installation is not on the usual platform (Windows server) on which it is installed
and therefore the installation on Windows 7 (x64) desktop/laptop may be one of the
difficulties users may face. After installing the SP server, you will have to set up a
service to run on this server that integrates with a SQL Server 2012. The SQL Server
2012's instance must have been set up to run in SP integrated mode. This was not
described in detail but when you come to the installation set up of Reporting
Services ( RS ), make sure that it follows the settings in this screen.
