Report data sources
In the previous chapter we have seen how data sources are created and bound to
reports. There are basically two types of data sources that you come across in reporting
services. The data that stays and travels with the data that only that particular report
will use is called the embedded data source and the other is called a shared data
source. Shared data sources can be used by one or more other reports.
An embedded data source
In the next chapter, Chapter 5 , Working with Report Builder 3.0 , we create a report
called ReportEmbed.rdl that uses an embedded data source with the data being
sourced from a SQL Server 2012 database. This report is saved on the Report Server
and is therefore available on the Report Manager.
The data source properties of this report accessed on the Report Manager are shown
in the next screenshot:
