In-Depth Information
The following are the formats and delivery methods, and the user can choose them
when a subscription is created. There are custom delivery types that can be created
using extensions; the ones shown are available out-of-the box.
Delivery Extension
Description
Windows file share
Delivers a report as a static application file to a shared folder that
is accessible on the network.
E-mail
Delivers a notification or a report as an e-mail attachment or URL
link.
SharePoint library
Delivers a report as a static application file to a SharePoint
library that is accessible from a SharePoint Site. The site must be
integrated with a Report Server that runs in SharePoint Integrated
mode.
Null
The null delivery provider is a highly specialized delivery
extension that is used to preload a cache with ready-to-view
parameterized reports. This method is not available to users in
individual subscriptions. Null delivery is used by administrators
in data-driven subscriptions to improve Report Server
performance by preloading the cache.
Features new in RS2012 SharePoint
Integrated
The combination of Silverlight application together with the reporting services
installed in SharePoint Integrated development made it possible to create highly
interactive reports that feed off live data, called Power Views. Presently there are
two ways they are created, using Excel with PowerPivot add-in or SQL Analysis
Services with Tabular Model and Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint.
In this section we will take a brief look at Power View features as well as Data
Alerts, a self-service technique to send out messages automatically via e-mail
whenever data in a report gets changed.
