In-Depth Information
Analysis: evaluating imagery, including identifying and prioritizing
issues
Correction/Grading: resolving technical issues (correction) and/or making
creative enhancements to imagery (grading)
Quality Control: checking the status and integrity of the elements
Just as with the workl ows and elements, no process is more important than
another. As with workl ows and elements, processes can also be combined
and added depending on the requirements of your show. For example, you
might want to add a “Reporting” process if generating reports is particularly
important to your show. Your Managing workl ow may also include
administrative processes such as payroll, accounting, asset management.
You may want to have a quality control step for each process in addition to
a quality control step for each element. Or you may want to split correction
and grading into entirely separate processes.
1.13.1 Processes and Elements
Use the Workl ow/Element/Process approach for your 3D post project no
matter what stage you are joining the show. The approach will help you plan
and implement post for your specii c show. Indeed, the interaction between
Workl ows, Elements and Processes will result in your show.
1.13.2 Doing the Math
Taken together, the six 3D workl ows, six 3D elements, and six 3D processes
provide up to 216 topics or knowledge areas (6 workl ows

6 processes) to consider for your show. Use whatever level of detail—
workl ow, element or process—you feel you or your team need to understand,
plan and implement your show. These 216 categories also provide the
organizational structure for this topic.
1.14 Structure of the Topic
1.14.1 Overview and Workl ow Chapters
After an overview of 3D post, Chapters 2 through 7 examine each of the six
core 3D workl ows. In each of these chapters, following a brief overview of
the workl ow and its role in 3D post, we examine key differences between 2D
and 3D post for that workl ow. We also discuss issues you are most likely to
