6.6.3.1 Color Systems
Some color tools can analyze L and R imagery and correct one to the
other or both to a common color setting. Color tools perform image
analysis on image pairs. The results of this analysis can under the right
conditions, assist teams in spotting, classifying, resolving or otherwise
addressing the most common color issues. Some of these systems can also
perform some of the more repetitive L/R color matching work, increasing
the time you can spend on creative color tweaks and creative issues in
other workflows.
Neither the manual or semi-automated tools are inherently superior. If your
show needs the automated functionality, then get it. If it does not, then
don't. Verify it by running a test. A show dealing with extensive footage that
needs to deliver tomorrow morning might i nd the semi-automated color
functionality worthwhile, especially as a primary color pass to set the stage
for a secondary creative color pass.
