Platform as a Service (PaaS)
PaaS provides the capability for consumers to have applications deployed without the bur-
den and cost of buying and managing the hardware and software. These are web-accessible
applications or services created using standard languages and tools supported by the PaaS
provider. The PaaS service consumer has control over the deployed application or service
and even the hosting environment in particular circumstances. Services can be provisioned
as integrated solutions over the Web, offering a quick time to market. PaaS facilitates
immediate business requirements such as application design, development, and testing at
a fraction of the normal cost. Most popular PaaS vendors and their solutions are shown in
Table 12.2.
