2.2 System architecture
Figure 3 shows the global architecture of our system. As explained before,
our system allows a user to better understand geographic databases content
thanks to the use of ontologies that formalize the specifications associated
with these databases. It also allows a user to visually compare geographic
datasets throw a web mapping solution allowing the visualization of the
data sought by the user. In this system, the user expresses his/her query
using terms from the domain topographic ontology. This way, s/he is able
to know about several geographic databases' content since they are
described using the same vocabulary.
