THE SHUTTLE
UNIVERSAL CITY is on the Red Line of Los Angeles Metro Rail, which makes it re-
latively easy to commute by light rail from downtown LA and many other places,
though not from Anaheim. Across the street from the subway station and the bus stop,
at Lankershim Boulevard and Universal Terrace Parkway, is a free shuttle bus that
will conveniently take you to the main entrances of Universal Studios Hollywood and
Universal CityWalk Hollywood. The bus runs daily, beginning at 7 a.m., with pickups
about every 10-15 minutes; service continues until about two hours after the theme
park closes. Refer to the posted times at each shuttle stop for information on the last
departing shuttle. For rail and bus schedules and additional public transportation in-
formation, call MTA at
800- COMMUTE or 213-626-4455, or visit metro.net .
ARRIVING and GETTING ORIENTED
MOST FOLKS ACCESS UNIVERSAL STUDIOS by taking US 101, also called the Holly-
wood Freeway, and following the signs to the park. If the freeway is gridlocked,
you can also get to the Studios by taking Cahuenga Boulevard and then turning
north toward Lankershim Boulevard. If you are coming from Burbank, take Barham
Boulevard toward US 101, and then follow the signs.
Universal Studios has a big, multilevel parking garage at the top of the hill. Signs
directing you to the garage are a bit confusing, so pay attention and stay to the far
right when you come up the hill. Even after you have made it to the pay booth and
shelled out $15 to park ($25 for premium parking, $17 if your RV is more than 15
feet long, and $10 after 3 p.m.), it is still not exactly clear where you go next. Drive
slowly, follow other cars proceeding from the pay booths, and avoid turns onto ramps
marked EXIT . You may become a bit disoriented, but ultimately you will blunder into
the garage. Once parked, make a note of your parking level and the location of your
space.
Walk toward the opposite end of the garage from where you entered and exit into
Universal CityWalk, a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex (no admission
required) situated between the parking structure and the main entrance of the park. As
an aside, CityWalk is much like Downtown Disney at Disneyland. Some of Univer-
sal's better restaurants and more interesting shops are at CityWalk, and it's so close to
