ularly well. If Disney's gate projections had panned out, the park would have been in
gridlock much of the time.
If you happen to hit DCA on a day of high attendance, here's what to expect.
The majority of the crowd will likely sprint to the Cars Land, grabbing Fastpasses
for Radiator Springs Racers and quickly overwhelming the two low-capacity attrac-
tions found there. Because Cars Land is such a draw, wait times at the park's former
see-first attractions, including Toy Story Midway Mania! and Soarin' Over Califor-
nia, have moderate waits for the first hour the park is open.
Some guests also head to Tower of Terror, but the rest of Hollywood Land, as
well as Pacific Wharf and a bug's land, are deserted until midmorning. Unless the day
starts off unusually warm, lines don't develop at Grizzly River Run until just before
lunchtime.
The crowd begins working its way into Paradise Pier an hour or two after the
park is open. The super-headliner Toy Story Midway Mania! is the big draw here, fol-
lowed by California Screamin'. Although they're not popular, the slow-loading cycle
rides at Paradise Pier will begin to develop lines a bit later. There's rarely a long wait
for the Little Mermaid attraction, though, at any time of day.
The crowds redistribute to the park's shows around lunchtime. Disney Junior,
Muppet-Vision, and the Hyperion Theater each draw good-size crowds. By 2p.m., the
whole park is fairly socked in with guests, and even minor attractions and displays,
such as the sourdough bread demonstration, build lines.
Park departures begin around 3 p.m. when families with small children start
heading home. What's interesting, however, is that 9-to-5 workers start coming into
the park around 6 p.m. and will generally stay for the evening. It's common to see
waits hold steady or even rise from early evening until the park closes, undoubtedly
because of Cars Land and World of Color.
Guests with World of Color Fastpasses will begin queuing in the Pacific Wharf,
Grizzly Peak, and Paradise Pier walkways an hour or more before showtime. The
largest wave of departing guests occur at the end of World of Color. Just before clos-
ing, crowd levels are thin except, of course, at Cars Land, Soarin' Over California,
and The Tower of Terror.
