and asphalt to electricity, steam and hydrogen. At the same time, sludge and some
contaminated water can be coprocessed with coke and/or asphalt and as such being
incinerated. This concept is particularly suitable for large upgrading complexes producing
synthetic crude. Such complexes are situated on or near the sites of heavy crude reservoirs and
tar sands deposits, frequently occurring in remote locations. However, in the case of spent
catalysts, the cost and/or means of transportation to a regenerating company or a metal
reclaimer may be a factor to be considered.
