Cross back over the bridge and stop for a pint at tiny, atmospheric
Regan's,
one of the
oldest pubs in Ireland, set beside one of the oldest bridges in Ireland. Drink a toast to Rock
Hudson, who filmed a pivotal scene from
Captain Lightfoot
(1955) on the bridge.
Then walk back along the river the way you came and have dinner at the recommended
Franzini's
restaurant beside the castle. After dinner, assist your digestion by walking a lap
around the castle (beautifully lit up at night). End the evening a few blocks away with a
pint at the
James Griffin
pub (described later). A fine night 'tis...or 'twas.
The Power & Glory
This grade-schoolish, 30-minute slideshow overview of the personalities and history of
the castle is followed by an exhibit on life here in Norman times. The show and a cup of
coffee help to pass the time as you wait for your castle tour.
