Car Rentals
Consider renting a car for at least a few days of your vacation
so that you can explore all parts of the island. Curaçao has
good roads, traffic travels on the right side, drivers are cour-
teous, and international signs are posted.
Several car-rental offices are located at the airport and usu-
ally open daily from 8 am until 8 pm. Some off-site companies offer 24-hour
pick-up and delivery or have offices at resorts. It's best to reserve a car
before you leave on vacation to get the best rates and avoid sell-outs. If you
want a car for only a few days, ask if your hotel has a rental company on-
site or nearby.
Rental rates to vary season-to-season, but they average about $35 per day
for a small car with manual transmission, air-conditioning and unlimited
mileage. You will pay about $65 per day for a larger car , as well as for one
with automatic transmission or four-wheel-drive. Weekly rates are avail-
able and usually work out to be less per day. Insurance add-ons begin at
$10 per day, but you may be responsible for $500 worth of damage anyway.
Check before you sign up. During high season, cars are reserved early, so
you may find only larger cars with automatic transmission if you wait
until the last minute. During low season, you can usually find special
deals.
