Getting to Curaçao
By Air
If you arrive by air, you will land at Hato International
Airport (CUR,
999-9-888-0101 ) , located on the north
coast about six miles from the capital of Willemstad. Its
11,118-foot runway is one of the longest in the Caribbean and
accommodates jumbo jets from Europe and all of the Ameri-
cas. ALM, the regional air carrier, headquarters at the air-
port, while KLM and Royal Dutch Airlines use it as a Caribbean base for
flights between Amsterdam, South America, and other Caribbean islands.
The airport is modern and passengers get through Customs quickly.
There's a 24-hour automatic currency exchange machine and an ATM that
disburses US dollars in the arrival area, along with a tourist information
booth. Taxi stands are located just outside the terminal, and car rental
offices are clustered together for easy rate comparisons.
American Airlines flies nonstop from Miami to Curaçao daily (2½ hours)
and American Eagle has daily nonstop flights to the island from San Juan,
Puerto Rico. ALM flies to Curaçao daily from Miami, Aruba, Bonaire, and
St. Martin. KLM and ALM fly directly from Amsterdam several times a
week. Avianca has service from Bogata; Aeropostal flies from Caracas.
