Landhuis
Granbeeuw (
747-0614) on Cascoraweg in Santa Rosa,
northeast of Willemstad. The three-course meal is well-
priced and served on the patio. Afterwards, stay on for live
music and dancing until one in the morning. Landhuis
Chobolobo (
461-3526) is the17th-century estate that
houses Senior CuraƧao Liqueur Distillery. On weekends,
the landhuis hosts local merenge and salsa bands 10 pm-
3 am. Call for current information and to be sure the house
isn't closed for a private party.
Nightlife
D on't believe it when someone tells you there's nothing to do after dark
on Bonaire. Those who say it most likely go to bed right after dinner
so they can be up for the first dive trip the next morning.
Night Diving
Actually, Bonaire is quite active after sunset, and diving or
snorkeling is one of the most popular nighttime activities.
Almost all dive operators offer outings just as the sky dark-
ens around sunset. Chemical lights are banned in the Marine
Park, but four-cell flashlights put a whole new light on color-
ful coral formations and marine creatures that normally hide during day-
time hours. Tarpon take advantage of the artificial beam to locate their
dinner, so divers/snorkelers have a chance to watch the huge silvery fish
chow down on smaller species that are attracted to the light like moths.
