By far the most popular spot
by the Mekong, this big, bustling
sin dad
joint packs in hundreds every night, attracted more
by the trestle tables bulging with help-yourself meat, fish and veg than by the constant power
ballad soundtrack. Obliging waiters are on hand to help you perfect your barbecue technique.
All-inclusive buffet (excluding alcohol) 60,000K.

city's biggest culinary hitters on the Nam Khan riverside, this charming family-run place
more than holds its own, with some deliciously fragrant Lao cooking served in generous por-
tions (mains 35,000-40,000K). Owner Dith formerly worked as head barman at

and as you'd expect the cocktails are excellent too - try the house rosella (hibiscus).

This small and
very popular Nam Khan-side restaurant has a well-deserved reputation for some of the best
Lao food in town. It's definitely worth splashing out on one of their “feast” menus, which
allow you to experience a more authentically local side of Lao food (from 90,000K/person).
They also run a very good
cooking school
. Book ahead.

Though it's popular
with tour groups, this shouldn't put you off, as the Lao menu here is more extensive than else-
where in the city and the food full of flavour. The stir-fried fish with Chinese mushrooms and
ginger (55,000K) and delectably spiced
or lam
(50,000K) are highly recommended.

Opened in 2013,
Tangor
is so French there's a good chance you'll be served by a waiter in cravat. Unsurprisingly, the
pricey food is excellent too, from baked Camembert to tarte tartin. Try the ceviche (80,000K
as a main), given added zing by lemongrass and basil and so fresh it's almost swimming. The
street-facing terrace is a popular people-watching spot.
Daily 11.30am-11pm (kitchen closes
at 9.45pm); closed 1 Sat per month.

This cute “biblio bis-

indulgent, one of the steaks (75,000K).
